Ok, let’s be honest…we’ve ALL been there.

womanscratchingheadYou are in a relationship and you know it’s not good for you.

You have this constant pit in your stomach because you know you need to break it off.

You finally muster up the courage to tell the person it’s over…and it’s like a HUGE weight is lifted off of you. You can breath again.  You feel lighter.  It’s like the sun is shining.  But then…

The fear creeps in…what if you made a mistake?  what if you will never find anyone else?  what if you just blew your last chance?

Now your stomach is in knots.  You feel like you are spinning.  You think…oh my God, what did I do?

And, you pick up the phone…and in moments of utter insanity you set up a time to meet.  You are delusional and say things like I miss you…maybe I made a mistake.

You meet and one thing leads to another…

Now you feel like crap…and you are thinking what have I done?!?!?!  You know this is not the right person for you…but what happened?

This same thing can happen when you are trying to advance your career or business.  I promise this will all make sense, if you can just hang in there with me for a minute.

And the same reason that you go back to your ex, even though you know it’s NOT what you really want is the same reason you can stay stuck in your business or career!

It all comes down to fear.  Let me explain…

You see when you are looking to go to the next level in your career or business there is a part of you that is so comfortable with where you are right now that it feels threatened by what may happen if things change.

So this leads to you making the same old choices that you always make.  You network with the same people.  You pass up opportunities to meet new people.  You pass up opportunities to do more speaking or anything that is going to put you in the spotlight and has the potential to help you.  You stay hiding and “safe”.

This is the fear of change.  And, this fear of change may be so big and powerful that it actually keeps you from taking the action needed to go to the next level.  So… you go back to what you know…just like you go back to your ex.  You know what you will get, and there is a part of you that likes that certainty even if it’s not what you really want.

Why is change so scary?

Well, there can be many reasons, and it’s very individual for each person.  There may have been times in the past when things changed and something “bad” happened.  Maybe something or someone was “taken away” or left you, and you associate change with being abandoned.  In general, you are conditioned to think that change is BAD and SCARY.

But, it’s when you become aware of these perceptions and start to re-wire yourself to see change as opportunity…well, then everything changes!  lol

Then you can actually catch yourself from going back to the old habits and patterns that are keeping you stuck.  You shift from thinking that change is the enemy to seeing change as freedom. That’s when  you step into your full power and there is NO limit as to what you can create.  Basically, you drop the ex once and for all and open up to brand new possibilities with faith and excitement.

So, I want you to check in with yourself and see how do you feel about change?  Are you embracing it or are you avoiding it?

What new choices would you make right now if you were able to see it as a new adventure?

With Courage,

Colleen
