I’m sure by now you have heard all about measles outbreak and the debate if vaccinations should be mandatory.
Well, there is a disease WAY more destructive than the measles that I want to talk about with you today.
A disease that has “claimed” more lives than Cancer, Stroke, or Heart Disease combined.
The Disease I am talking about is what I call “Good Girl Syndrome”.
And although this disease can not physically kill you, it will lead you to a life where you may feel dead inside because you are living a life that is NOT true to what you really want.
Here are the signs and symptoms of Good Girl Syndrome…
You say Yes when you really mean NO!
This can look like saying Yes to working with a client that deep down in your gut you know is NOT your ideal client and will suck the life out of you!
You can say Yes to going out to dinner with your friends when all you really want to do is curl up on the couch and read a good book.
You can say Yes taking your kids wherever they want to go when that actually is the last thing you want to do.
Why do we say YES when we really mean NO????
There can be a lot of reasons…including the fear of making others mad. You have been so conditioned to live your life to please others. This is constantly re-enforced in society and childhood. Heaven forbid you actually do what you want because someone else might get mad. Then you may think… who cares? Why do I care so much about what others think?
Well, there may be past experiences where you have been wired to care what others think. I know personally, I grew up with a stepdad that you did NOT want to make mad. So I spent most of my childhood learning that I needed to try to do whatever I could so he would not get mad. I didn’t even realize how much that had impacted me until I became aware of why it was so hard for me make decisions based on what I wanted. On a deep level, I learned that in order to try to feel safe and secure, I needed to try to please others.
Thankfully, I have done the inner work to release that baggage so that I come from a place of feeling safe and secure in making decisions that are best for me no matter what other people think… even if they get made. I re-wired myself to be able to this. And the more I stand in my power and follow my own personal desire, the better my life gets, the more I can help empower other women to do the same, and the more my business grows.
Here is another sign you have Good Girl Syndrome.
You say NO when you really mean YES!
This can show up around saying no to taking a trip that you would really love to experience.
You can say NO to investing in yourself whether that is taking a seminar, going shopping, investing in a mentor.
Why do you say NO when you really mean YES?
There can be lots of reasons like the fear of making a mistake. If I say yes and make that commitment, can I really make it happen? Do I really believe that I deserve to say YES to my desires? What will other people think about my decision?
The bottom line is that if you are living in your life or business to make others happy and be liked…for the fear of making a mistake…for the fear of making others mad…then you are NOT really living YOUR life.
And that is the deadly part of this disease. You are still breathing…but you are NOT living.
The impact that Good Girl Syndrome has can go way beyond destroying your life. If you have kids or anyone else that looks up to you…you are spreading this disease. People learn from you by your actions, NOT by what you say. So if you are telling others to do the opposite of what you are actually doing, it will make NO impact on them. Whether they know it or not, they will not listen to your words, they will follow your actions. The only antedote to this disease is to do the inner work so that you can make EMPOWERED decisions…NO MATTER WHAT!
I want you to really think about the choices you have made this week.
Are you saying Yes when you really mean NO?
Are you saying NO when you really mean YES?
What would change in your life if you could eradicate this disease once and for all?
And there is NO vaccination that can help you…
